A public think tank has criticised Health Minister Professor Sir Ara Darzi’s plans to create polyclinics in London.

Reform, an independent body that discusses radical public sector and economic reform, says Professor Darzi’s plans will not bring about the healthcare improvements that London needs.

The report “Weaknesses in the Darzi Review of the London NHS” states that polyclinics will act as “roadblocks” to alternatives that could bring about “real progress quickly and at much lower cost”.

Reform say Professor Darzi’s London health plan will only affect Zone One, despite the much greater need for improvement in outer London hospitals and community services.

Not only that, they say the plan is based on weak financial estimates.

Reform conclude that Professor Darzi is “ignorant” of the vast improvements needed across primary care in London if his proposals are to go to plan.
