The NHS Commissioning Board (NHS CB) has confirmed it has hired management consultancy firm PwC to help provide support and assurance through its CCG authorisation process.

Under the £3.4m contract, PwC will cover document assessment and assessor training as well as providing support in the moderation stage and evaluation of the authorisation process.

The external company has also been asked to provide independent members for CCG “panel visits” – an element of CCG assessment, which sits alongside the 360 degree survey, self assessment and evidence gathering tasks.
Dame Barbara Hakin revealed the partnership during the NHS CB’s meeting yesterday (31 May) and warned her fellow board members “not to underestimate the magnitude of the CCG authorisation process”.

PwC confirmed the contract with the NHS CB will run between 22 May 2012 and 31 March 2013 but declined to comment further on the partnership.

In other news, the number of local arms of the NHS CB has fallen dramatically from 50 to 27 – mirroring previous SHA numbers.
