Mobile phones giant Orange has launched a service for the UK healthcare sector which it claims could save up to £300m per year for the NHS.
The Orange Health Gateway is delivered by iPLATO’s mobile messaging service, providing GP surgeries, pharmacies and hospitals with the means to issue appointment reminders, test results and medication monitoring.
Missed appointments cost the NHS £790m a year, though Orange says it can save the service £300m of that.
Michael Lawrence, head of corporate propositions at Orange UK, said, “Orange Health Gateway offers the healthcare sector the opportunity to improve patient services and deliver real savings by capitalising on the everyday use of mobile.
“It enables healthcare providers to make better use of time and resources, at a time when efficiency gains are ‘front of mind’.
“With minimal management commitments combined with maximum efficiency and cost savings, Orange Health Gateway will ease the lives of patients and professionals across the healthcare sector.”
