A GP accused of pursuing an emotional and sexual relationship with two patients at his general practice faced a General Medical Council (GMC) hearing today (Tuesday 20 November 2007).

The allegations are against Dr Oladapo Idowu, a GP from Newport, South Wales.

It is alleged that one of the patients he is accused of having an improper relationship with had a baby, of which Dr Idowu was the father, and that he told that patient to name the baby’s father as a different name from his own.

It is alleged that Dr Idowu encouraged a third party to attempt to persuade the second patient with whom he pursued an emotional and sexual relationship not to complain about his conduct. In doing so, it is alleged that Dr Idowu’s actions were an abuse of his professional position.

It is also alleged that Dr Idowu worked as a doctor for Primecare whilst suspended from the Performers’ List. In doing so, it is alleged that Dr Idowu’s actions were dishonest.

The hearing continues.
