Managers are being encouraged to ensure that workers feel comfortable taking their breaks following reports that almost a quarter of staff claim it makes them uneasy.

Research by BUPA shows that of 2,000 people surveyed, 24% claimed they felt uneasy taking breaks as their bosses did not, highlighting the important role managers can play in addressing the situation.

The data also show that only 29% of staff take their lunch breaks and 28% do not take any breaks at all.

A further 42% of staff claimed that even when on breaks, they continue to respond to work calls and emails.
