UK employees are the lowest paid in Europe, a study has revealed.
The average base salary for an entry-level professional in the UK is £34,184. But similar positions in Switzerland could expect around £63,245, and those in Denmark could expect to earn £45,464.
Darryl Davis, a senior consultant in Towers Watson’s data services team, said: “The results suggest that continental European wages have been less severely suppressed over the past few years than in the UK.
“This may be due to stronger unionisation for employees in many European countries.”
The findings were published as part of Towers Watson’s Global 50 Remuneration Planning Report, which examines how much buying power employees get from their pay.
