Time is becoming an increasingly precious resource for those working in practice teams. Keeping abreast of the latest clinical and policy developments can be a daunting task. Finding out what is relevant and what is going to make a difference – to you, your colleagues, patients and the practice – is not always straightforward.

But in October, for the first time, it will be possible to have access to all the key information you need for the year ahead – in one place at one time. The Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) Annual National Conference on Primary Care, held at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre, is the first-ever primary care-focused conference in the UK for GPs and the whole practice team.

Its theme, “A Fresh Approach”, exemplifies its main aim: to provide primary care health practitioners with the opportunity to receive all the information they need, including clinical updates and the latest developments in research, policy, standards, innovation and education.

While it is being hosted by the RCGP, the conference is not just for GPs, but is equally relevant for practice managers and nurses, with sessions and workshops tailored especially to their needs.

In addition to an exciting plenary programme with both political and international speakers, it will be a great opportunity for colleagues to showcase their work and discuss the issues that are important to them. There will also be a wide variety of small seminars and workshops focusing on clinical updates, with an opportunity to learn new skills and exchange ideas, using a range of educational techniques.

It will be a chance to network and gain advice and support from other primary care professionals and exhibitors. The impressive line-up of speakers includes new health secretary Alan Johnson; the chief medical officers of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland; Rebecca Stevens, the first woman to climb Everest; and Niall Dickson, Chief Executive of the Kings Fund, who will act as chairman and host.

We would like to see the RCGP Primary Care Conference become a major event in the healthcare calendar for all primary care providers.

We are counting on your support, so please visit the conference website (www.rcgpannualconference.org.uk) to find out more and book your place.
