Sawston Medical Practice in Cambridgeshire, and Belvidere Medical Practice, in Shrewsbury were rated outstanding by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
Sawston Medical Practice was commended for a number of reasons, including its rapid access clinic so patients can be seen urgently, including a visiting GP.
The practice also had low average waiting times, (4.7 minutes in March) and a breastfeeding room and separate baby changing room for patients to use.
They run a weekly walking group for patients, and staff were given a weekly newsletter with important updates, and including staff members achievements.
Patients with long-term conditions were recalled at least annually for an appointment to have all the relevant tests, the results of which were reviewed by a GP who advised on the most appropriate action, reducing the need for numerous appointments.
Belvidere Medical Practice was commended for employing a care co-ordinator to support and facilitate care for 110 frail and vulnerable patients.
The practice also employed a counsellor for patients with mental health difficulties such as low mood, depression and anxiety. In 2014-2015 the practice made 57 referrals to this service and 317 counselling sessions had been provided to patients.
The surgery also provided extended hours appointments with the GPs, the respiratory nurse and the practice’s counselling service.
