A GP surgery that was rated inadequate twice by the CQC has been taken over by a new provider, the CCG has confirmed.

Charterhouse Surgery in Orpington, in the London Borough of Bromley was rated inadequate overall for the second time by the CQC following an inspection in September 2017.

NHS Bromley Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) said that the change in provider is a result of the most recent CQC report.

The former two lead GPs, Dr Beena Ashok and Dr Penelope Lester had their registration withdrawn by the CQC on 11 February 2018 and can no longer run the practice.

The new provider, McLaren Perry Ltd, has taken over the practice and started to provide services from 12 February.

NHS Bromley CCG said: ‘The new team are experienced and will provide high quality care to registered patients. They will also ensure that the improvements required by the CQC are put in place.’

The CQC’s latest report had outlined that the practice had suffered a ‘further loss of clinical staff since our last inspection’.

However, the CCG said that under the new provider, the practice will be able to recruit more staff.

It said in a statement: ‘One of the existing GPs in the practice, Dr Kamara, will be increasing her days to become full time (from two days per week), and two more doctors will be starting, one on 26 February and one on 5 March.’

The switch to a new provider has also led to a staff turnover.

The CCG said: ‘Apart from the two lead GPs any permanent staff have the right to be transferred to the new provider if they wish to continue to work at the practice. At the point of handover, we are aware that four members of the original Charterhouse team will continue to work in the practice.’

The practice has been approached for comments.
