The NHS’ first social media recruitment drive has received an unprecedented number of applications.

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust’s search for 100 band 5 nurses to join the organisation has received 94 applications in the first two weeks of the campaign.

Eight nurses shared their experiences of working for the trust in short films appearing on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

Ten times more people engaged with the trust on Facebook and Twitter, with 1,600 nurses viewing the short films on YouTube.

Kathryn Halford, associate director of nursing at the Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust said: “We are really proud to be the first Trust in the country to run a campaign like this, but more importantly we are delighted that so many nurses are interested in joining our hospital.”

Earlier this year NHS Employers released a Briefing Document on using social media as part of a recruitment drive, which is available to view here
