A satellite navigation system could be used to help people find a parking space when they go to their local GP surgery.
The technology, which has been used by Westminster City Council to help visitors find nearby public toilets, works by sending a text message to a service that replies within seconds, giving details of the nearest car parks, based on the current location picked up by the satellite navigation.
The technology help drivers make appointments on time by reducing the need to circle surgeries looking for a space prior to their visit to the doctor.
Councillor Danny Chalkley said: “Thanks to our text services you can find a wide range of essential services at the touch of a button while on the move.
“This type of service has incredible potential, and it could be used for any type of public service, including hospitals, dentists, and GP surgeries.”
Each text message sent to the service line costs 25p plus the standard network charge.
