Initially the jab will be offered to people aged 70, 78 and 79 in the UK.

More than 800,000 people will be eligible for the vaccine in the first year of the programme

In England, Scotland and Northern Ireland, those aged 70 and 79 will be invited to take up the vaccination. In Wales those aged 70 and 79 will be invited to take up the vaccination.

Shingles is a common disease that can cause long-lasting, pain as well as permanent disability.

The disease occurs more frequently in those over 70 years old, who are also likely to have worse symptoms.
