The scout motto “be prepared” has struck a chord at Whitchurch Health Centre in Bristol.
As a result, the boys and girls from the city’s Christ Church scout groups are delivering swine-flu vaccination appointment letters during the postal strike.
They have spent the last two weekends delivering 2,500 letters, and will continue their rounds during their half-term break this week.
Steve Davies, Practice Manager at Whitchurch Health Centre, said: “We are absolutely delighted that this community-based approach to contacting patients about their swine-flu vaccinations has been so successful.
“The scouts have enjoyed participating in such an important task, and we have been really pleased to know that we have succeeded in reaching our at-risk population and telling them about our vaccination programme.
“Without the help and assistance of the scouts, contacting our key patients would have been very difficult, especially with a national mail strike.”
