GPs will be charged £50 per year to use the revalidation tool soon to be launched by the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP).
For members using the existing revalidation ePortfolio tool, the update – which will be launched in August – will be free for the first four years.
After that, they will receive a 25% annual discount to their subscription.
Dr Maureen Baker, RCGP chair said the college is committed to using their resources in the “most cost effective and efficient way for the benefit of our members”.
She said: “Creating a unified system will reduce the costs that we currently incur in developing and supporting our existing Revalidation ePortfolio tool, and at the same time allow us to offer a sustainable, improved system to our members. Having a unified system will also help to standardise the revalidation process for thousands of GPs.
“We are confident that our partnership with Clarity Informatics will allow us to provide GPs and primary care organisations with the highest quality revalidation online toolkit, combining the best aspects of both our existing revalidation systems.
“The new system will be secure, reliable and easy to use, ensuring that the revalidation experience is as supportive and stress-free as possible.”
Users of the current RCGP Revalidation ePortfolio will also be able to opt out of the new system and choose an alternative tool to aid their revalidation.
