A Nottingham GP practice is set to close due to “unsustainable” running costs.
Trentside Medical Group’s contract to deliver GP services at Colwick Vale Surgery comes to an end Thursday 31 March 2016. The Group will not continue with the contract “due to the unsustainable costs of running the surgery.”
This comes a week after an Ilford GP practice was also deemed “not financially viable” after NHS England searched (for 18 months) for a GP or organisation to take over the surgery.
Spearpoint Surgery, an Ilford hospital-based GP practice, will close as “The small number of registered patients means the practice is not financially viable as the amount of money a practice received is based on the number of patients registered,” Conor Burke, the chief officer of Redbridge CCG explained.
Local councillors are calling for a new practice in the area, however the CCG said that they are letting patients know how to register with a new GP.
Similarly, Nottingham North And East CCG (NNECCG) is also considering a new practice. A possible alternative is a new state-of-the-art surgery on an old school site, of which the plans have been agreed but are subject to funding.
Starting this month, a consultation will open until February to gather residents’ views, and then NNECCG, the local authority and Trentside Medical Group will look at their options.
A spokesperson for the CCG said: “We are committed to ensuring all local patients can access good quality care and are working closely with the practice.”
