Patients and the public must become more involved in plans to develop practice-based commissioning (PbC), says the NHS Alliance.
They believe this will help to create credible and sustainable decisions which are made and owned by all.
Dr Brian Fisher at the NHS Alliance said: “There seems to be very little engagement with local people in the development and implementation of Pbc Business plans.
“Devolved commissioning means commissioning that is more sensitive to the needs of patients, local people and frontline clinicians.”
Dr Fisher adds that the NHS Alliance is well placed to support practices and PCTs willing to develop their commissioning techniques.
“We can put PbC and local people together through the National Association of Patient Participation Groups with whom we have strong links,” he adds.
