Patients looking for information about the choices available for their healthcare will now be able to find it all on one NHS website.

NHS Choices and NHS Direct are joining forces to provide the public with all the health information they need in one place.

From today (12 November 2008), the public are able to access all of the NHS’s health content from one website, NHS Choices. The site will offer advice and information designed to help people understand and exercise their choice about health and healthcare.

According to the Department of Health, this move means “the NHS will have one of the most comprehensive online health information services in the world.”

NHS Choices now offers access to GP practice profiles as well as self-help guides, comparative information on hospitals and guides to long-term conditions.

Health Minister Ben Bradshaw said: “This single site will make it easier for the public to find reliable health information quickly and will give relevant and accurate advice that will help them to make their own decisions and choices about their health and healthcare “
