The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) is launching a brand new guide on 10 May 2007 to help physiotherapists get to grips with NHS commissioning.

Making the Business Case: A physiotherapist’s guide to commissioning will help physiotherapy managers and clinical leads work confidently with NHS commissioners to ensure that commissioners understand the contribution physiotherapy can make to better “value for money” patient services.

Physiotherapists have become key players in delivering modern healthcare services and this new guide will help them think in financial terms and cope in the modern NHS with:

  • Workable steps to initiate business thinking, including marketing and negotiation skills.
  • Detailed examples of value for money physiotherapy services.
  • Explanation of recent government policy and its impact on physiotherapy.
  • A practical tool kit, with exercises, tips and check lists.

Sarah Bazin, CSP Chair of Council, explained the context for this new guide: “About one in 20 of the 12 million hospital admissions in England last year were for injuries or conditions requiring physiotherapy treatment.

“Working across a wide range of primary, secondary and independent healthcare settings, physiotherapists are at the heart of effective patient care and are helping to bring down waiting lists”.
