Health Education England (HEE) wants to review its structures to ensure all trainee doctors are getting enough support.
In response to the independent review on junior doctors morale that was announced on 12 February, HEE is proposing to review its educational support structures.
This is “so that all doctors get advice and educational supervision, the sort of support that is currently denied to them,” said Wendy Reid, director of education and quality at HEE.
“Putting patients at the heart of everything we do in education and training means ensuring that all staff have their educational needs met either through formal training programmes or through CPD supported by employers,” Reed explained.
This comes after the Department of Health announced an independent review of junior doctors’ experience of their NHS training and employment, in order to better understand and deal with the long-standing issue of low morale.
HEE also wants to review the rules around training to reduce the unnecessary bureaucracy.
“This includes a review of how assessment of training is managed. HEE will be doing this work in transparent collaboration with all stakeholders and will be consulting with organisations and individuals over the next few weeks to develop this work further,” professor Reid added.
