Heatwave help text messages were sent to patients in the hopes of reducing A&E attendance in one area.

Technology currently used to send text reminders from practices in Wolverhampton CCG was used to give clear instructions on what to do in the hot weather.

A message template created by information management and technology (IM&T) company MJog targeted relevant patients on surgeries lists.

Sheila Gregory, head of IM&T project implementation at Wolverhampton CCG said: “[This was] the quickest method to enable us to meet our CCG objectives of being dynamic, responsive and innovative.

“We see this text message as a key part of educating the local population about how to respond in the current heatwave.”

The service aims to quickly and efficiently communicate essential health advice to a wide patient audience.
