Dr Chaand Nagpaul, the chair of the General Practitioners Committee (GPC), was honoured by the Queen for services to primary care.
He was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in this year’s Queen’s Birthday Honours on Saturday.
Dr Nagpaul, who has been honoured for services to primary care, said: “I am truly touched and humbled to receive this award. It is a tribute to the hard work and dedication of over 40,000 GPs across the UK, who I am immensely proud and privileged to represent.
“This honour equally belongs to the discipline of general practice – the most treasured jewel in the NHS’s crown and the bedrock of our health service providing personalised and trusted care to over one million patients daily,” he said.
Dr Mark Porter, BMA Council chair, said: “I am delighted for Chaand in receiving this honour. As chair of the BMA’s general practice committee, he has worked tirelessly to represent the interests of GPs and to highlight the challenges they face.”
