The government has spent £1.7bn more than it promised on general practices in England during the past three years, figures from the Information Centre reveal.
The government has invested 9.2% more than it promised under the Gross Investment Guarantee since new primary care contracts were introduced.
In Wales, the government has invested £1.1bn in general practice, that is £41m more than promised.
In Northern Ireland, investment was 14.2% more than promised at £0.5 billion.
Overall, in the UK, the Information Centre has revealed that a total of £24bn has been invested in general practice.
These figures have were agreed upon by the Technical Steering Committee, including NHS Employers and the BMA’s General Practitioners’ Committee.
