Companies need to focus more on data management as more information is placed online, an expert has warned.

Anthony Torreso, of hosting firm Ruby Ring Technologies, said the risk of security breaches is increasing as more data is placed on the internet.

Sensitive details such as medical records and financial information could be compromised if firms do not tighten up their data management policies, he said.

Mr Torreso said firms need to have a better understanding of the level of protection needed to keep their data secure.

“I think personally we are going too far down the internet route and it is dangerous for all of us. We as individuals need some level of personal privacy should we wish this protection. Until measures are in place to provide this reassurance a hold should be put on any further advancement in IT in the lives of human beings” – V Henry, London
