GP contract: QOF point value to be raised

It was revealed in the 2017/18 GP contract deal that the value of a QOF point will increase from April this year by 3.6% from £165.18 to £171.20.

As the population grows, it was decided that the value of a QOF point would increase proportionally to the consumer price index (CPI) and growth in average GP practice list size.

If the increase was not made year on year, then inflation would mean that work related to QOF would automatically become worth less to practices.

Practices losing out

In 2014 it was revealed that NHS England would not be increasing the QOF point value for that financial year, meaning practices lost thousands of pounds, however the GPC has successfully negotiated increases since then.

Prior to 2014, the value of a QOF point had not been subject to negotiation but instead been increased automatically.

The recent contract also revealed that practices will be refunded their full CQC fees for the first time.
