QOF was updated in Spring 2022 and contained no new indicators and no significant alterations to the existing ones. However, Covid levels are increasing, a new wave is expected, and GPs are being presented with new information about a possible further vaccination programme in the Autumn. As situations continue to change, now is a good time to be mindful of the QOF Indicators that carry a deadline, and keep a tight watch on patients with long-term conditions that may be affected by Covid.
Where to start with time-sensitive Indicators?
Asthma and heart failure patients, for example, have an Indicator of action within six months of diagnosis for further exploratory testing and monitoring. A diagnosis of depression or cancer have similar timely follow up Indicators, as does referral to a diabetes education programme for patients experiencing the disease. COPD also has referral criteria with strict deadlines.
Importantly, there are also strict Indicators on Vaccinations and Immunisations, particularly for children of between 8 months and five years requiring the full vaccination schedule, and the shingles vaccine for those between the ages of 70 and 79.
Practices should also be providing timely care to the patient cohort with personalised care adjustments, such as spirometry and echocardiograms, smoking cessation, and so forth.
Managing patient communication and flow of care with Mjog
Mjog by Livi’s remote tools for care are accessible from any location to ensure that practices and patients can keep apace with modern requirements and offer the safest ways to treat conditions. As the cost of living increases, digital care is becoming preferable for some of our most vulnerable groups, so tools such as online patient questionnaires and remote monitoring and virtual ward data collection is ever more pertinent.
