Practice managers and GPs will be able to hear the latest on all the important changes to the GP contract for 2023/24 at this year’s Management in Practice event in Birmingham.
GP Dr David Wrigley, deputy chair of the BMA GP Committee England will be delivering the keynote address titled ‘General practice on the brink’, in which he will cover details about the contract and its requirements for practices.
The conference on May 16 is a three-stream event with a wide variety of sessions that reflect the current challenges facing GP practices, including how to increase profitability and practice performance, recruitment and retention of staff, rising workload, patient access, managing complaints and sustainability.
Also on the agenda is how practices can move from analogue telephone systems to cloud telephony, which will become a requirement under the GP contract from April.
Speaker Dave Mills, who formerly worked in practice management and is now at technology company, Think Healthcare, will be updating delegates about NHS England’s Better Purchasing Framework from which practices will be required to procure cloud-based platforms. He will also share advice about how to maximise the benefits of moving over from analogue systems and how it can improve patient access.
Other highlights include:
- How to grow the business in 2023
- Five easy ways to increase practice efficiency
- How to juggle work and life
- Top actions to minimise the carbon footprint of general practice
- Innovation in social prescribing
- PCN workforce retention and development.
Also speaking at the Birmingham event is this year’s winner of the Practice Manager of the Year Award, Martin Turner, who will be talking about the dual role of being a practice manager and PCN manager.
Chairing each stream will be Kay Keane, practice manager and Director of the Institute of General Practice Management, Lorna Laflin, deputy lead of the primary care development programme at the RCGP.
Management in Practice events are free to attend and offer networking opportunities as well as equip delegates with vital ideas and knowledge about running their practices more effectively.
