Practices can apply for funding as part of new NHS Digital trials to explore how wireless technologies could improve the delivery of healthcare.
NHS Digital’s Wireless Centre of Excellence will run trials this year to explore how cutting-edge wireless technologies can support patient services.
As part of this, practices and other NHS healthcare providers can apply for funding if they are either considering, or are in the process of implementing, wireless technology.
The current scheme will take on applicants for a year-long programme, although applications for longer trials will be considered.
The centre will work in collaboration with successful practices, from application through to the end of the trial to understand the impact wireless technologies can have on health and care delivery.
Practices can also expect technical support, advice and assistance in developing the technology usage.
Patrick Clark, NHS Digital’s director of infrastructure services, said wireless technologies would play an important role as the NHS looks to implement new models of care to allow patients to receive treatment at home or in mobile health settings.
They will also help provide clinicians with access to data and digital systems wherever they need it, he said.
‘These projects are a step-forward in digital transformation and will bring an array of benefits, particularly for those least able to access healthcare and for digitally isolated hospitals and health centres,’ Mr Clark added.
The findings from the trials will help inform guidance, best practice and support collaboration across the healthcare system.
