As many as 10,000 new roles in vaccination services are now being advertised as part of a recruitment campaign to support practices and sites delivering the booster programme.

Launched today, NHS England confirmed that the new roles will include vaccinators, admin staff and healthcare support workers.

Recruitment for the paid roles is in partnership with NHS Professionals, the NHS’ workforce provider.

On its recruitment portal, NHS Professionals said openings for roles will ‘vary across the country’, meaning applications will be prioritised based on demand in local areas.

It said: ‘We are particularly keen to welcome back former colleagues to help in the continued national effort – especially if you have experience of vaccinating in the NHS.’

However, applicants do not need to have experience in the NHS to apply for some roles.

It comes just over a week after the Government confirmed the booster programme would be extended to include all adults over 18, where previously it had been open to only those over 50.

The extension came with a January deadline to reach all those eligible, with the standard payment per jab increased to £15 from £12.58.

Amanda Pritchard, NHS chief executive, said: ‘The rollout would not have been as successful as it has been without the help of thousands of volunteers who have given over one million hours to deliver vaccines and help us save thousands of lives.

‘Now the NHS is ramping up its vaccine drive once again as millions more become eligible for their booster, sooner, following updated Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) guidance, and so we are now recruiting 10,000 more staff to help us in our national mission.’
