A practice manager who works for a GP alliance in Coventry and Rugby has been awarded the “Practice Manager of the Year” at a ceremony in London.
Karin Bruce, who also represents practice managers on the Clinical Leadership Team of the Locality within Coventry and Rugby Clinical Commissioning Group, was given the award last night at the General Practice Awards, which are run by Management in Practice’s publishers, Cogora.
In her 22 years experience, Bruce has dealt with GP shortages by reassigning GP work to be carried out by other trained people and introducing a program whereby all Docman letters are dealt with by admin staff.
As a result Bruce set up a similar program for other practices, which has trained over 30 other practices.
In her role at the GP Alliance, Bruce has set up an extended hours service giving additional GP and practice nurse hours to the CCG area seven days a week.
This started on one site and will soon expand to three further sites ensures a better level of access for patients, particularly those groups who are normally hard to reach.
Other winners include Dr Jonathan Grant Cope for GP of the year, Dr Ruth Heseltine for GP trainee of the year, Sandwell & West Birmingham CCG for general practice team of the year, Deborah Allcock for Nurse of the year and Fens and Brecks Care Home Matron Service for nursing team of the year.
