Heads of CCGs and NHS trusts are amongst the senior staff working in health and care who have been appointed to lead work on the sustainability and transformation plans (STP) across England.

Their role is to bring together local health and care leaders, organisations and communities in 44 STP “footprint” areas across the country to develop local blueprints to improve healthcare and finance as part of the NHS Five Year Forward View.

The STP will be supported with a £2.1 billion fund in 2016-17, increasing to £2.9 billion in 2017-18 and rising to £3.4 billion by 2020-21.

NHS England said the leaders have been selected as they command the support of colleagues locally, as well as national leadership bodies in the NHS.

So far 41 of the 44 leaders have been appointed by NHS England, will the leaders for Coast, Humber and Vale, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly and Norfolk and Waveney  yet to be confirmed.

The leaders include CCG accountable officers, provider chief executives, local authority bosses and clinicians and provider chief executives.

In February the NHS said the leaders “will be responsible for convening and chairing system-wide meetings and facilitating open and honest conversations that will be necessary to secure sign-up to a shared vision and plan.”
