Doctors could manage their continuous professional development (CPD) records with a mobile app from the General Medical Council (GMC), launched today.

The new app ‘GMC My CPD’ allows doctors to record their learning activities on the go, or photograph learning certificates and voice record their ideas and thoughts.

It also allows doctors or practice managers to set a reminder so the app will ask them at a later date if the changes to their practice have been effective.

Niall Dickson, chief executive of the GMC, said: “We have developed and tested it [the app] with practising professionals – it should help doctors keep their learning records up to date, and reflect appropriately on their learning.”

Doctors can also read advice and case studies, including planning, reflecting on points of learning, and how to prepare for appraisal.

The app can work with existing CPD recording systems, or act as a single way of recording learning.

Dickson added: “CPD is an integral part of practising medicine and we very much hope this app will be a useful aid for front line doctors.”
