The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has announced the 11 acute, community and mental health providers it will inspect in September 2015.
The inspections – which are carried out by a mixture of inspectors, clinicians and people who have experience using care services – will assess whether the service overall is: safe, effective, caring, responsive to people’s needs and well-led.
The CQC said: “Our inspection regime allows us to get under the skin of services better than ever before and to provide a clear picture of what care is really like. As of Friday 24 April, we have rated two NHS trusts as outstanding, 26 as good, 50 as requires improvement and 10 as inadequate.”
NHS providers will be given 20 weeks notice and inspections of acute NHS trusts are expected to be finished by the end of March 2016. The inspections of acute specialist, mental health, community healthcare and ambulance trusts should be over by the end of June 2016.
The providers listed below were chosen for different reasons, for example to follow up on concerns raised regionally or the need to inspect different types of trusts in different parts of the country.

Acute care:

· Colchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
· Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust
· Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
Mental health:
· South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust
· North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare NHS Trust
· Combined acute and community health services
· Wye Valley NHS Trust
· Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
Combined mental health and community health services:
· Somerset Partnership NHS Foundation Trust
· Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust
· Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust
