The Health and Social Care Information Centre has published the latest GP seniority factors, which were at £92,034 for England and £84,199 for Wales.
For England, it is slightly less than the interim figure used that was put at £93,972. For Wales it is slightly higher than the interim estimation that had been set at £82,099.
The final seniority factorsare calculated once data from GP tax returns has been collected and the average superannuable income from GPs is known.
Seniority factor payments were introduced as part of the GMS contract in 2004 and were designed to reward GPs’ experience but are being phased outvia a 15% year-on-year annual reduction. They are being completely scrapped from 2020.
