Updated resources to support GPs through revalidation have been published by the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP).

They include the 9th edition of the popular RCGP Guide to the Revalidation of General Practitioners, originally published in 2008.

Changes to the latest version include a revised section on ‘Review of Practice’; clarification on patient feedback processes; and an explanation of country-specific variations to the revalidation process in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

Complementary toolkits have also been developed to work alongside the Guide. These cover:

 – Colleague and Patient Feedback

 – Personal Development Plans

 – Significant Event Analysis

 – Complaints

 – Quality Improvement

 – Impact Credits

An e-learning module on revalidation, which counts towards CPD credits, has also been revised.

The free resources have been developed by working GPs to help make revalidation a positive and rewarding experience for GPs.

They include real-life example portfolios, covering a wide range of GP specialties, as well as an extensive Q&A document.

Professor Nigel Sparrow, RCGP revalidation lead said: “The College is committed to the professional development of GPs in the UK – and to the safe care of our patients.

“We are determined to make the preparations for revalidation as supportive and stress-free as possible for everyone involved. All our resources are produced by GPs for GPs, based on feedback from our members and GPs going through revalidation.

“We now have a rich bank of support material, available free of charge to all GPs, which we will continue to add to and update to reflect the latest developments in appraisal and revalidation.”

For more information on the additional resources is available on the RCGP website.
