GPs have launched a campaign over new funding for practices hit by MPIG cuts in their local area.
A practice in Tower Hamlets has been told it could have to close next year because of losses from MPIG and other streams.
The practice stands to lose £903,000 in total, while £219,508 are being withdrawn for correction factor payments.
Together with local politicians, the practice is urging ministers not to withdraw the MPIG but to hand new funding to area teams for staffing and deprivation issues.
The practice is a Royal College of GPs quality practice award winner, and has a 94% satisfaction rating from patients.
Senior partner Dr Naomi Beer said MPIG withdrawal policy was letting patients in underprivileged areas down.
She said: “We are now eating into practice savings to continue providing a quality service. We are planning for a ‘red button day’ when we will have to close the practice.”
Practice manager Virginia Patania said a reduction in quality and outcomes framework points in 2013/14 had cost the practice £30,000, a loss which has been worsened by MPIG cuts.
Patania said the practice is “done with CCGs, we are done with NHS England” and that changes must now be made at the Department of Health level.
