Jan Sobieraj has been appointed as Managing Director at the NHS Leadership Academy.
A former Managing Director for NHS and Social Care Workforce at the DH, Sobieraj has worked as a chief executive at various NHS organisations including: NHS Sheffield, Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and an NHS Trust in Lincolnshire providing community and mental health services.
Speaking about his appointment, Sobieraj said creating an NHS fit to meet the challenges of the future will not be done by “tweaking around the edges” but by allowing “industrial levels of transformation and innovation”.
“I was there when the idea of the NHS Leadership Academy was conceived and I’m delighted that I’m now here to be part of its development,” he said.
“The NHS is operating in a world which is changing at a scale and pace never seen before. It is outstanding leadership that will deliver change for us. It’s an incredibly exciting and challenging opportunity.”
Sir David Nicholson, Chief Executive of the NHS has welcomed Sobieraj to his new role, claiming “he knows what works and what doesn’t”.
“Great leaders create working climates where people working with them feel engaged, empowered and satisfied,” said Nicholson.
“This is the kind of leadership that the Academy will develop in the NHS and indeed exemplify itself, with Jan’s leadership.”
The NHS Leadership Academy is designed to produce and inspire outstanding leadership in the NHS, setting the standards for leadership and bringing together all the national activity supporting leadership development in health and NHS funded services.
