The NHS Commissioning Board (NHS CB) has confirmed 35 CCGs have chosen to take part in the first wave of applications for authorisation.
Applications for authorisation will take place in four waves from July 2012 to January 2013.
Dame Barbara Hakin, National Director of Commissioning Development at the NHS CB, said the confirmation of the CCGs that will be assessed in waves 2, 3 and 4 are to be expected “shortly”.
She praised all emerging CCGs for making “fantastic progress” to prepare themselves for authorisation.
The NHS CB has pledged to continue to work with all emerging CCGs over the coming months “to guide and support them” on their journey to establishment.
“We welcome this confirmation and we will continue to work hard with NHS Gloucestershire and the whole clinical community to build on the progress made, ensure a smooth transition and ensure we have the best possible support in to the future,” said Dr Helen Miller, Chair of the Shadow Clinical Commissioning Gloucestershire Board.
“These developments mean that clinicians will be at the heart of planning healthcare in the county and will be in the driving seat for the buying of health services to meet the needs of local people.”
