A ‘one-stop shop’ guide designed to help patients get the most from their GP practice has been launched by the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP).
It’s Your Practice: A patient guide to GP services is available free of charge via the RCGP and NHS Choices websites. It claims to help a patient through the process of choosing and registering with a surgery as well as providing advice on how to book appointments and getting the most from a consultation.
Plans are to make the resource as widely available as possible, although the details of which haven’t been shared.
“Primary care is the backbone of our NHS, but no two GP practices are the same,” said Professor Sir Bruce Keogh, NHS Medical Director.
“This guide will help people understand how primary care works so they can engage with and get the most from a practice of their choice.”
Other sections of the guide provide guidance on how patients can access their health records; patient rights and responsibilities and how to get involved in the running of the practice.
