The prime minister has called for information on the running of schools, hospitals, courts and transport services to be made public under a bid for greater transparency.
David Cameron said that new records will be made available to the public from October under plans to boost transparency among publicly-funded organisations.
On schools, parents looking for Ofsted reports will be able to enter a postcode into an easy-to-use website – which will also shed light on pupil performance and school spending.
A push for the NHS to publish complaints categorised by hospital is being developed in a bid to help patients make a more-informed choice over which hospital can cater to their needs best.
Meanwhile, data on clinical outcomes for GPs will be published in December – casting the spotlight over the work of doctors in England.
Cabinet Office minister Francis Maude is to meet public sector workers and data industry representatives to announce the plans.
He said: “Having this data available will help people find the right doctor for their needs or the best teacher for their child and will help frontline professionals compare their performance and effectiveness and improve it.”
