An NHS trust has become the first in the country to implement a new mental health computer system as part of the NHS National Programme for IT (NPFIT), it has been reported.
Care practitioners at the Humber Mental Health Teaching NHS Trust are now using the SystmOne Mental Health system to input and access client assessments, care plans and care notes for patients across Hull and the East Riding.
The trust found that using the system, provided by Computer Sciences Corporation, would help make accessing records and reporting processes more straightforward.
“At Humber, we see NPFIT as an asset for business change and not just an IT enabler,” Julie Wilson, the trust’s head of corporate development, told the website E-Health Insider. “We wanted clinicians to be able to electronically access and enter data, and this solution fitted that bill nicely.
“There are several key benefits we have immediately noted from using the system. This includes easy access to records, available immediately, so no more waiting.
“Instead clinicians can do real-time recording as they go about their rounds,” she added. “It means the data is more accurate and clinicians can spend more time with patients and less time in the office.”
