The ongoing dispute between the British Medical Association and its staff has led to workers voting in favour of industrial action.
The strike, the first ever by BMA staff, has been sparked by a performance-related pay system which the union said had been imposed on staff, who advise, support and represent doctors as well as negotiate with the government on their behalf.
GMB official Dave Kent said: “It is the height of hypocrisy for BMA management to persist with this discredited, demotivating and disastrous pay system. We’ve tried to negotiate on this issue, but the BMA management does not wish to negotiate.””
Disgruntled employees have accused the BMA of hypocrisy for opposing performance related pay for doctors but attempting the foist it on its staff.
The strike, which will take place on 22 May, was supported by more than 70% of staff across Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
