Business leaders who want to increase the productivity of their firms have been urged to pay more attention to the health of their workers.
According to a report published by Business In The Community, the issue should be placed on the agenda of boardroom meetings across Britain because a growing number of workers believe that their managers are apathetic about their wellbeing.
The organisation said that one in three workers believe their health is neglected, while almost half claim that it is affecting productivity.
The business support group’s study, which questioned more than 1,300 employees, found that almost two-thirds do not believe their boss considers that staff are an asset that are worth investing in.
Stephen Howard, managing director of Business In The Community, said: “We know substantial investment is already being made in employee wellbeing; however, public reporting in this area is almost nonexistent.
“Our aim is to increase business accountability and competitiveness, by helping companies introduce simple health and wellbeing programmes that can be effectively measured against the bottom line.”
